 Second-Year Course Headline (4 marks)

Create one headline promoting second-year digital courses in this program, targeted to first-year students. You must provide:

a) Provide the headline

“Beef Up Your Resume with This Digital Hack”

b) Explain your reasoning clearly using class content

This headline is short. To get your attention: It uses important ideas from class to make you want to read it.

  • It creates a curiosity gap. The phrase “this hack” does not tell you what the hack is. You have to click to find out.
  • It tells you what you will gain. In this case you will get a resume. This is very important to first-year students who are thinking about getting a job.
  • It sounds like someone is talking to you. The words “beef up” and “Hack” are informal and sound like what you would read online.
  • It is about something that first-year students care about. They want to stand out when they are looking for a job. So making your resume better is a deal.
  •  It makes you think it will be easy. The word “hack” means an easy way to do something. This makes you want to click and learn more.

It is like the headlines you see on media and blogs. Students are used to seeing headlines like this. This headline is not very specific. It works well online. It is good at getting your attention and making you want to read more. It does this by being relatable and useful. These are the things that make you want to click on something.
